I can imagine that, since it was published, this book has fascinated a lot of children 12+ and adults and offered to some a first and practical introduction to message encryption.One of the best Jules Verne novels, compared to the Count of Monte Cristo, as there are some similarities. The action happens all over the Mediterranean sea, and is weaved with political events surrounding the Austro-Hungarian empire. Recommended read, and don't forget to try the cipher communication with a friend!

the Magyar name of the main character is Sandor Matyas! the escape chapter is fabulous! I could not put the book down.I recently visited Friuli, Italy and the Croatian coast, where part of this story took place.very historic old world!!!
